Matthew Teller is the new Head of School for Green Fields Country Day School, Southern Arizona's oldest independent college preparatory school. Located on a 22-acre campus in northwest Tucson, Green Fields serves a diverse population of students in grades K-12 with a challenging curriculum that emphasizes the humanities, math and science, fine arts, athletics and personal development.
Teller joined the Green Fields faculty in 2000 as a Spanish teacher. Since then he has chaired the Department of Foreign Languages for four years and served as Upper School Principal since 2007. He started as Head of School on July 1, 2009, replacing Deac Etherington who served in that position since 2006.
Teller holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Georgetown University, a master's degree in Spanish linguistics and a doctorate in applied linguistics, both from the University of Arizona. Upon completing his PhD, Teller accepted a position as Assistant Professor of Spanish and Portuguese at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia. He returned to Tucson in 2000 to join Green Fields and pursue his interest in working at the college preparatory level.
“Over the past decade I have come to cherish the unique character of Green Fields and its emphasis on academic and athletic challenge, individual inquiry, and balance. Time and time again I have seen the way a Green Fields education instills in students a love of learning that will last a lifetime. It is an honor to continue to serve the Green Fields community as Head of School.”
